The Museum am Löwentor is diagonally opposite the Nordbahnhof railway station, on the edge of Rosensteinpark. Opened in 1985, it houses the fossil collection of the Staatliches Museum für Naturkunde.

The fossils in the museum's world-famous collection were excavated in south-west Germany. Among its impressive exhibits are fossils of a giant frog and dinosaur from the Triassic Age, a Jurassic marine lizard and mammals from the Tertiary and Ice Ages. The museum also possesses a spectacular amber collection.
